The PEEPs are here!! The PEEPs are here!!! You know what that means. Easter will be here soon! The pink and purple and yellow marshmallow chicks and bunnies festively decorating store shelves are a sure sign that nothing in this world will be able to stop the arrival of Easter morning. Oh, the joy those little PEEPs bring.

Despite PEEPs being extra sugary, messy and sticky, PEEPs let everyone know that there is a special occasion on the horizon. Despite PEEPs being one of the most nasty tasting pure sugar rushes known to childhood, PEEPs are like John the Baptist in the Advent season. Despite discovering that all the PEEPs on the store shelves this year were made in 1967 and have a shelf life of 238 years, PEEPs are our cultural forerunner and announcer of Easter. And, despite PEEPs being the farthest thing in this world that have anything to do with the resurrection of our Lord, PEEPs have become a steadfast staple of Easter.

Well, I’ve done some “DaVinci” code type of investigating and I am going to unleash one of history’s best known secrets. The inventor of PEEPs came up with the notion of PEEPs when he was going to work at the candy store. It was raining and he slipped and fell and temporarily knocked himself out. When he came to, there we two people aiding him and giving him comfort. He didn’t know these people and despite them being strangers, they acting in a loving caring and gracious way. When he asked them who they were, they responded, we are Precious Everyday Easter People. Precious Everyday Easter People. - PEEPs.

So, the candy store inventor launched his own secret mission to get a precious reminder to people every where, that because of Christ and the Resurrection, because of God’s love and redeeming revealed in the new covenant of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, everyone who Christ comes to and calls, He empowers them to be Precious Everyday Easter People. (Some of the facts of this story are of course questionable at best, but who cares?)

Easter is not a one time event or one day out of the year. Because Jesus has Risen, we too are Risen each and every day. And each and every day, we are PEEPs: Precious Everyday Easter People. Have a Blessed Easter each and every day.

In Christ’s Love and Service,
PASTOR DAN VALASAKOS
